Abstract:Objective To investigate the knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment among students in a vocational college in Qiandongnan Prefecture to provide scientific evidence for reducing the risk of HIV/AIDS transmission in schools and proposing intervention strategies for campus education. Methods From November to December 2021, students in a vocational and technical college were selected by convenient sampling method to conduct a questionnaire survey on HIV health knowledge, and the chi-square test was used for analysis and comparison. Results In this survey, 1 861 students were enrolled in the survey, and the overall awareness rate of HIV/AIDS prevention and control knowledge was 77.59%, including 69.79% of non-medical students and 83.75% of medical students, and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=51.405, P<0.001). Less than 80% of students were aware of the severity of HIV/AIDS, the epidemic situation among young students in China, and the protection of the rights and interests of HIV/AIDS patients in China’s laws. In terms of the way to obtain knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention and control, 95.06% of the students explained through teachers, followed by online publicity (89.63%) and TV publicity (82.91%). Conclusion The awareness rate of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment knowledge among students in vocational colleges in Qiandongnan Prefecture needs to be improved, and the total awareness rate of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment knowledge among medical students is significantly higher than that of non-medical students.
