Abstract:Objective To gain insight into the knowledge, factors influencing awareness, and popular science needs regarding the prevention and treatment of digestive system cancer among 541 undergraduate students at a university in Sichuan Province, this study aims to provide a reference for the development of a popular science plan focused on digestive system cancer prevention and treatment for undergraduates at the university in the future. Methods From April to May 2022, a convenience sampling method was used to conduct an anonymous online survey of undergraduate students in a university in Sichuan Province using the sojump. The survey tool was the digestive system cancer prevention knowledge and popular science demand Questionnaire of College Students. A total of 541 valid questionnaires were collected for analysis. Descriptive statistics were made on the basic information and awareness rate of the survey objects, the Chi-square test was used for univariate analysis and the binary logistic regression model was used to analyze the related factors affecting the knowledge rate of prevention and treatment of digestive system cancer. Results The awareness rate of knowledge regarding the prevention and treatment of digestive system cancer among 541 undergraduates in this university was found to be 53.63%, the awareness rate of girls was 54.67%, which was higher than that of boys 49.94% (χ2=6.14, P=0.01). The awareness rate of medical students was 54.11%, which was higher than that of 50.05% of non-medical majors (χ2=11.01, P=0.001). There was also a difference in the awareness of digestive cancer prevention and treatment among students at different grade levels, with a higher awareness rate in the fourth grade (χ2=9.85, P=0.04). The higher the level of education of the mother, the higher the rate of awareness (χ2=14.12). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed thatgender(OR=1.91,95%CI=1.20 - 3.05),major(medical major: OR=2.54,95%CI=1.34 - 4.82) and grade (sophomore: OR=1.48,95%CI=0.72-3.05: junior: OR=2.91,95%CI=1.38- 6.15; Senior year: OR=3.04,95%CI=1.41- 6.57; university grade five OR=10.70,95%CI=3.15 - 36.41) were the factors influencing the knowledge rate of prevention and treatment of digestive system cancer . Conclusions The study found that among 541 college students, the level of knowledge regarding the prevention and treatment of digestive system cancer was low. The study suggests that more targeted efforts should be made to educate male students, non-medical majors, and junior students on this topic to improve their understanding of digestive system cancer prevention and treatment.
