Abstract:Objective To conduct a questionnaire survey among 1 597 primary and secondary school teachers in five regions of China, in order to understand the participation of teachers in school health education and the teachers of health education classes, so as to provide data support for the revision and improvement of school health education related norms. Methods A total of 1 597 school teachers in 5 regions were selected to conduct an online questionnaire star survey by using the principle of stratified random sampling, and the survey content included four parts: personal basic situation, familiarity with school health education, implementation and application, and problems and suggestions, and the obtained data were analyzed. Results A Total of 79.87% of the teachers had a basic understanding of the content of school health education, 64.58% of the teachers had participated in relevant training, 77.12% of the teachers reported that they had unified health education teaching materials, and 67.52% of the teachers reported that they had a health education class once a week, 75.17% of the teachers had a certain background in health education, and 59.25% of the teachers could often combine health education in their daily teaching. There were statistically significant differences in teachers’ participation in school health education among regions, urban and rural areas, and teaching sections (P<0.05). Totally 41.69% of the teachers of health education courses for primary and secondary school students were school doctors/health teachers. Conclusions The participation and understanding of school health education by school teachers are basically good. In order to improve the implementation effect of school health education, it is necessary to build a high-quality and professional team of primary and secondary school health education teachers.
