Objective To reveal the current situation of mobile phone use among primary and middle school students and their parents' attitudes, so as to provide the evidence for improving the healthy use of mobile phones. Methods Five different grades of three cities in three provinces were sampled by stratified cluster sampling method. The parents of the students of different classes were the objects of the study. The class was a unit, and the investigator contacted the school. The class teacher and other people distributedthe questionnaires to the students' parents. An anonymous questionnaire investigation was performed on the basis of the informed consent. Results There were significant differences among different grades, ways of schooling methods, parents' educational levels, and parents' occupations in the incidence of mobile phone use. The different schooling ways as well as family monthly incomes were the important influencing factors of parents' attitude towards their children equipping mobile phones. The different primary guardians and the different children's schooling ways were statistically significant for the use of mobile phones of the children. Conclusion With the increase of the grade, the mobile phone ownership rate rises gradually, and the 5 grade is a turning point needing the parents' attention. When a child has a certain degree of self-control, the parents may consider buying a mobile phone, but the necessary interventions are needed.
