Abstract

Objective To explore the changes of cognitive function and oxidation level in patients with schizophrenia after non-convulsive electroconvulsive therapy (MECT). Methods Sixty-four patients with schizophrenia admitted to our hospital were selected as research subjects from March 2019-July 2020.To observe the patient‘s MECT treatment efficacy, cognitive function and oxidation level changes before and after treatment. Results Of the 64 patients, 37 (57.8%) were cured, 19 (29.7%) were markedly effective, 7 (10.9%) were effective, and 1 (1.6%) was ineffective. The total effective rate was 98.4%; there was no difference in the total number of WCST responses between patients before and after treatment Statistically significant (t=0.328, P=0.744). After treatment, the number of correct WCST responses was more than before treatment, the number of WCST error responses was less than before treatment, and the completion time of WCST was shorter than before treatment. The difference was statistically significant (t=4.977、4.742、2.387, P<0.001, P<0.001, P=0.018); after treatment Nitric oxide levels (NO) levels were lower than before treatment, glutathione peroxidase (GPX) levels, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels were higher than before treatment, the differences were statistically significant (t=6.684、3.887、2.066, P<0.001, P<0.001, P=0.041). Conclusion MECT can significantly improve the cognitive function of patients with schizophrenia, reduce oxygen free radicals in the body, and balance the level of oxidation. It has a good effect and can be used in clinical applications.
