Abstract:Objective To learn the relationship between food intake and myopia in students aged 6 to 22 years by meta-analysis. Methods The works of literature were searched from the Chinese literature databases (CNKI database, Wanfang database, VIP Information, Chinese biomedical literature database) and the foreign databases (PubMed, Web of Science, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, Cochrane Library) which were about the relationship between food intake and myopia in students. The period of the works of literature was from January 1, 2002, to January 1, 2022. The effective works of literature were screened according to the criteria. Meta-analysis was performed with Review Manager 5.4 software, and the OR value and 95%CI were calculated to systematically evaluate the relationship between food intake and myopia in students. Results A total of 11 Chinese works of literature were included, involving 15 304 persons. The combined effect values of all kinds of food intake and myopia in 6 to 22 years old students were: OR=0.41 (95%CI [0.28, 0.61]) for regular consumption of vegetables; OR=0.76 (95%CI [0.68, 0.85]) for regular consumption of fruit; OR=0.70 (95%CI [0.50, 0.99]) for regular consumption of dairy products. Conclusion Regular consumption of vegetables, fruits, and milk may be helpful to prevent myopia in students.
