Abstract:Objective To analyze the iodine nutrition levels of children aged 8-10 years in Taishan District of Tai’an City from 2018 to 2020, so as to provide evidence for formulating effective intervention measures. Methods From 2018 to 2020, according to the requirements of the technical implementation plan for iodine deficiency disease and high iodine prevention and control project in Shandong Province, 200 children aged 8 to 10 years were selected each year according to the stratified sampling method for salt iodine, urine iodine, and thyroid volume testing. Results From 2018 to 2020, the medians of urinary iodine in children aged 8 to 10 years in Taishan District were 107.75 μg/L, 252.15 μg/L, and 252.50 μg/L, respectively, the difference in medians of urinary iodine in different years was statistically significant (H=192.15, P<0.001). There was a significant difference in urine iodine levels of children in different age groups (χ2=84.17, P<0.001), but there was no significant difference in urine iodine levels between children of different genders (χ2=2.92, P=0.089). The coverage rates of qualified iodized salt were 84.00%, 86.00%, and 78.00% respectively. A total of 10 patients with goiter were detected in 3 years, with an average goiter rate of 1.67%. Conclusion In 2018, the iodine nutrition status of children in Taishan District was at an appropriate level, but in 2019 and 2020, the iodine nutrition status was above the appropriate level. However, the consumption rate of qualified iodized salt in Taishan District was low. Therefore, health education should be continued to strengthen and iodized salt should be reasonably and scientifically consumed.
