Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effect of exercise therapy based on neck strength exercises on exercise intervention for cervical spondylosis in college students. Methods A total of 31 male college students diagnosed with non-acute cervical spondylosis were recruited and randomly divided (by the odd and even number method) into a control group (traditional exercise therapy focusing on joint movement and muscle relaxation) and a study group (exercise therapy focusing on strength exercises for muscle traction around the neck) for 18 weeks. The VAS (visual assessment of pain in cervical spondylosis) and JOA (Japanese Orthopaedic Association) scores were observed before and after the intervention respectively for analysis. Results Before the intervention, there were no significant differences in JOA and VAS scores between the two groups (both P>0.05). After 18 weeks of exercise therapy intervention, the JOA score of the study group was (14.31±0.94), which was significantly higher than that (10.0±1.26) before the intervention (t=-9.70, P<0.001). After the intervention, the JOA score of the study group was higher than that of the control group (t=8.15, P<0.01). Before the intervention, there was no significant difference in VAS scores between the two groups (P>0.05), but after the intervention, the VAS scores in the study group were (2.88±0.95), which was significantly lower than that (7.75±0.77) before the intervention (t=14.33, P<0.01). After the intervention, the VAS score of the study group was lower than that of the control group (t=-6.18, P<0.01). Conclusion The improvement effect of neck strength exercise on cervical radiculopathy in 16 male college students is better than that of traditional exercise therapy.
