Abstract:Objective To investigate the prevalence of wedge-shaped tooth defects among faculty and staff of a university so as to provide clinical references for preventive health care. Methods The prevalence and treatment rates of wedge-shaped defects among 2 968 in-service teachers aged 35-64 in this school were investigated and analyzed, and the distribution of tooth position and frequency distribution were used as statistical indicators. The results were analyzed by using statistical software. Results The overall prevalence of wedge-shaped defects was 46.43%, the total treatment rate was 19.65%, and the prevalence rates among the three age groups were statistically significant (43.17% at 35-44-year group, 47.79% at 45-54-year group, 53.50% at 55-64-year group, χ2trend=15.79, P<0.05), and the treatment rates were also statistically significant (9.75% at 35-44-year group, 19.78% at 45-54-year group, 33.83% at 55-64-year group, χ2trend=193.03, P<0.001). The multivariate regression analysis showed that age, position, and education level were all influencing factors except for gender as the influencing factor (P>0.05). The highest prevalence was in the first premolars (30.46%) and the lowest in the second molars (0.80%). Conclusion The disease of wedge-shaped tooth defects in the faculty and staff of this university cannot be ignored, and it is necessary to strengthen the publicity and education of oral prevention and health care.
