Abstract:Objective To understand the basic situation of school doctors/health teachers and health facilities in primary and secondary schools in Suzhou City, so as to provide a reference for improving current school health work. Methods A total of 626 primary and secondary schools and 743 school doctors/health teachers in Suzhou City were investigated by using questionnaires in 2017. Results The ratio of students to school doctors/health teachers was 1171:1, and only 13.7% of the investigated schools met the standard of 600:1. The school doctors/health teachers were female predominantly (84.1%), mostly between the ages of 30 and 50 years (67.2%), the proportion of medical professional persons among all the personnel was 63.5%, the majority of them had primary (40.3%) and secondary (35.2%) medical professional qualifications. The ratios of schools equipped with infirmary, nutrition guidance and psychological consult for students were 98.6%, 68.9% and 34.0%, respectively. Conclusion The school doctors/health teachers in primary and secondary schools in Suzhou City has the problems of insufficient allocation and unreasonable professional titles, and therefore, the construction and management of school medical staff should be strengthened.
