Abstract:Objective To understand the application of national essential drugs in a community hospital of a university from 2014 to 2016, so as to provide the reference for promoting the implementation of the National Essential Drug System at the primary health care institutions. Methods The data of national essential drugs prescribed from 2014 to 2016 in the hospital, including the number of essential drugs and the sales amount were collected and analyzed. Results The proportions of national essential drugs accounted for 50.00%, 50.71%, 49.54% of all drugs respectively in 2014, 2015 and 2016, while the corresponding sales amounts accounted for 47.52%, 46.08% and 44.72% respectively. The 3 types of best-selling national essential drugs were cardiovascular medications, endocrine drugs (the most were anti-diabetic medication), and Chinese medicines dissolving stasis. Conclusion This hospital implements the National Essential Drug System efficiently. The national essential drugs for chronic diseases lead among all essential drugs regarding the sales amount and defined daily dose system (DDDs).
